Photo of the Day: I’ll Think of Summer Days Again...

From the end of August to a few days from now, one piece of music sounds insistently in my mind: Chad and Jeremy’s lush and lovely 1964 hit, “A Summer Song.” Here, the end of a relationship is identified with the end of a season: “They say that all good things must end someday,/Autumn leaves must fall.” Even though the end of a summer love might hurt now, in time it will leave a quiet glow: “I’ll think of summer days again/And dream of you.”

This past weekend, with the intolerable heat and humidity having fled, I was reminded of why novelist Henry James told dear friend Edith Wharton: “Summer afternoon—summer afternoon—I think that is the most beautiful phrase in the language.”

On Saturday, I stopped by this creek in Piermont, NY, and soaked up the smells, sounds and sights around me before it all became a dream again….
